1st Meet up

We had our first meet up as a unit recently. It was great fun and we got to know each other much better. We designed our unit badge and changed our name to Unit 28, The Yorkshire Puddings. We all contributed to all the decisions as a team. It was great to finally see our friends from selection camp again! We filled in a questionnaire which gave the uk contingent team an idea where we wanted to go for our HOHO, we had the choices of Canada, USA or surprise me. We put Canada, then USA then surprise me.  We had to take group photos with people from our district then a whole group one of Unit 28. We made some great friends and had a great day!!!

Fund Raising Number 2

For our second fundraisng activity, we contacted Hannah and Jay's old primary school, Farsley Farfield, asking if we could have a stall at thier Christmas Fayre. They kindly agreed and we sold all sorts at our stall. We had friends donate things so we could sell them which was very kind. Due to the fact that the stall was straight after school, Martin couldn't make it however donated lots of things for the stall. We again made about £100 and are hugely thankful for everyone who came along and bought something!!

Fund raising Number 1

Our first fundraiser was a stall at our old scout groups Christmas fair. We had a jumble sale, where we brought toys, books and films for people to buy. As the people there were scouting families, they donated generously as none of the things we brought had set prices. We raised approximately £90 from the sale and were very grateful to anyone who bought any of our things! Thanks for all your support,

Selection Procedure

We became aware of this huge opportunity sometime last year. It sounded amazing! It was a perfect chance for us to travel and to develop as young adults. Firstly, to start off the process, we had to apply to the jamboree. We sent in application forms and then had interviews at our scout headquarters. They asked us questions such as why we wanted to attend the jamboree, what our best scouting experience had been, fundraising ideas and what makes you smile about scouting. After the interview process, we received an email telling us whether or not we had got through the interview stages. Getting past the interviews themselves was difficult as it was the first interview we had had and obviously we come across as ambassadors for Scouting, Yorkshire and the UK. At this point 150 had applied, this number was whittled down to 90 for the selection weekend. The selection weekend was tough. We were split into patrols by age and were numbered, 1 to 90. The oldest was 1 and youngest was 90. Martin was number (15), Jay was (  ) and Hannah was 49. We were all in separate patrols with people who we didn't know. We had many challenges throughout the weekend which tested our teamwork skills, scouting abilities, problem solving skills, perseverance and resilience. To top it off, the weather was horrendous. It rained and was freezing which tested us to the extreme. About a week later we found out whether we got on the jamboree or not. It was a long wait and a long process, but it was worth it when we found out that we were going to America on the 24th World Scout Jamboree!
